Technical data

The density of bush Kauri at 12 % moisture content is 560 KG. the tangential shrinkage green to 12 % is 4.1% and radial shrinkage is 2.3%. Kauri is very stable once dry. Its strength properties are very simular to rimu. Modulus of rupture at 12 % moisture content is 88 MPa and modulus of elasticity 9.1 GPa

Drying

Timber 25 mm thick can be dried in 6 to 12 months, and 50 mm in 15 months.

Preservative treatment

The heartwood of Kauri is moderately durable in contact with the ground. But it is very durable in situations where it is continiously wet. No timber behaves better in hot, wet conditions. The sapwood is prone to be attack by Anobium, the comon house borer.
